Questionnaire Results - Analysis

The results I acquired from my questionnaire have really helped me decide how I am going to choose my film trailer.

1 - It was quite evenly answered with 53% of the participants being male and 47% being female. This means I have acquired data that counts for more than one specific gender.
2 - The highest answer I got was 'action'. I am happy with this answer because I have been hoping to film an action trailer from the start. 33% of people said this and the rest of the answers were mixed between the other answers.
3 - For this question, the highest answer I got was 'revealing a little' which is what I personally agree with. I plan to start my trailer as the start of the film storyline. Then I want to use a lot of short shots to build up the suspense and end it on a cliff hanger.
4 - This next answer that got the most ticks I was surprised at. 'The way it's marketed'. This is actually very helpful as I have to create a Magazine Cover and a Poster for my task. I will show the people I surveyed the poster and cover and get their feedback.
5 - Music is very important with my clip as it is going to contain a lot of short, fast paced clips. I am going to choose a number of songs and email the producers to gain permission.

Here is my questionnaire with the results next to the questions. I surveyed 30 people and typed up the results on Microsoft Word.

Codes And Conventions of a Thriller Trailer

The main codes and conventions of a thriller are how it has been edited.

Editing plays an important role when it comes to a thriller. Quick cuts and short shots edited in make it much more scary and tense as it covers many different angles but also makes it hard to see complete detail (which is good when it comes to a trailer). However, in a thriller trailer, it can also be effective to give a way a lot of the storyline without giving away the ending etc. (Non-Stop https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jiHDJ19A3dk, starts with long shots about the story then switches to short shots).

Sound is also very important and plays a very big part. A classic background track for a thriller; like how it's edited, starts slow to go with the shots and then gets much faster paced. (When A Stranger Calls https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIgkbigAzjY, music gradually gets more intense). Diegetic sound is also important as it gives a more realistic approach to the film.(The Ring, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TuH5FaUpFm4, good use of diegetic sound; phone ringing, video play, screaming etc).

Film Trailer Research - Action/Thriller

The next action/thriller trailer I chose to analyse is the film 'Taken'. I chose this because the trailer gives a good description of the story line but doesn't tell you anything about the ending, making it full of suspense and making you want to watch it.

Part of the trailer I like is how they show more than one shot at a time to show a divide between the good character (Liam Neeson) and the bad character (Arben Bajraktaraj).
